Michigan Tamil Sangam was formed in 1975 as a non-profit organization with no religious or political alignment. The organization was formed by a group of Tamil speaking friends who met in a basement and decided to form a grassroots organization to preserve and nurture their tradition and values for future generations.

Michigan Tamil Sangam organizes Tamil classes for younger kids starting from age 3 and have been doing so since 2010. Tamil class has been very successful in the past years and more than 400 kids participated last academic year
