About MTS

Michigan Tamil Sangam (MTS) was established in 1975 as a non-profit organization with no religious or political affiliations. It was founded by a group of Tamil-speaking friends who first gathered in a basement, united by a shared vision to preserve and promote Tamil culture, language, and values. What began as a grassroots effort has since grown into a vibrant community dedicated to passing on their rich heritage to future generations.

About MTS Tamil Schools

Since 2010, Michigan Tamil Sangam has been offering Tamil language classes for young children, starting as early as age 3. Over the years, the program has grown significantly in popularity and impact. In the most recent academic year alone, more than 667 students participated, reflecting the continued success and community support for this initiative.

Cultivating a Lifelong Love for Reading

We are dedicated to inspiring and nurturing a deep love for reading in our children. With a rich collection of over 1,500 books at each location, our libraries serve as a vibrant gateway to Tamil culture, heritage, and values.

Students visit the library weekly, where they can explore and borrow books that ignite their imagination and curiosity. To further encourage reading, we celebrate and reward students who read the most books each year.

Our diverse collection spans a wide range of genres, including:

  • Picture books
  • Children’s stories
  • Biographies of Tamil leaders and freedom fighters
  • Fiction and nonfiction

By fostering a passion for reading, we aim to shape young minds and inspire a lifelong journey of learning and discovery.
