We believe all children learn our Tamil language at different rates! Our Vision is to identify and encourage kids to learn according to individual potential, and to promote language and Tamil culture along the way!

To create an atmosphere that is warm and caring, cooperative, motivating, active, fun filled, successful, therefore promoting success for each individual according to his/her own potential!

Mission

The mission of the Michigan Tamil School community is to nurture our children’s natural curiosity so that the love of learning Tamil continues throughout their lives. Michigan Tamil School ensures the learning environment of children is provided with a safe and orderly environment by having best in class curriculum, and periodically trained teachers.

Our goal is to inspire our students to be caring and contributing members of society!

Affiliation

Michigan Tamil School is happy to be affiliated with International Tamil Academy, ITA (formerly California Tamil Academy, CTA), as the ITA curriculum is well designed, especially for children in the US to enjoy learning our Tamil language. ITA provides Textbooks, Exercise books, Handwriting books, Exercise books to practice grammar for higher grades and more, as
hardcopy books and the same softcopy books are available online in ITA website. In addition to teaching Tamil, ITA encourages cultural activities such as music, dance, drama and any art form based on Tamil language and Tamil culture to promote Tamil and Tamil culture. Each grade level syllabus is also designed to adhere to the mission!

How Accreditation benefits us!?!

The public is assured that accredited institutions are evaluated extensively and conform to expectations of performance and quality. Because accreditation requires continual self-evaluation and monitoring of its programs and operations in relation to the impact on student learning and periodic external review, the public can be assured that the educational quality of programs and services offered by the institution are current, reflect high standards of quality, and are offered with integrity!

International Tamil Academy (ITA/CTA) has received Accreditation from Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) https://www.acswasc.org/ and so, as Michigan Tamil School affiliated with ITA, Parents/Students can be assured that the Michigan Tamil School have been reviewed and the educational programs that are offered have been evaluated for quality!

A team is devotedly working on maintaining WASC Accreditation and to receive COGNIA (Formerly AdvancEd) Accreditation.

Biliteracy Seal

Getting the seal of biliteracy is the most exciting part for any high school graduates! How do we get it!?!

A student must demonstrate Intermediate High proficiency on Tamil language assessments in all domains that pertain to the language in question. The Seal serves as an additional tool for colleges and universities to recognize applicants’ language abilities for admission and placement.

Our school mentors high school students to prepare themselves for the assessments and guides them throughout the process of getting biliteracy seal in Tamil!

Volunteering

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service of others.” Mahatma Gandhi

One of the best places to volunteer is school as we are giving our time and heart to our future, ‘children’!!

Our school nominates eligible volunteers (https://presidentialserviceawards.gov/eligibility) to receive the prestigious award ‘The President’s Volunteer Service Award’ (PVSA).

Tamil school graduates or High school children interested in teaching Tamil are most welcome. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to earn volunteer hours for high school credits.
